This can even lead to social issues, such as very few friends and even bullying due to lack of physical abilities. As a parent, our concern is will our kids have a good childhood and are we really preparing them to be successful in the adult world.

Training in martial arts for self defense is a great activity for children to participate in. In our pursuit as parents to keep our kids interested in something besides the latest video game, martial arts offers something exciting and very productive. Besides being a fun activity it is a great way to make new friends.

My fascination with martial arts began when I was very young. I remember watching movies like the Karate Kid and other martial arts action films. I even remember watching the first UFC's on video cassette!

Unfortunately at this time in my life, I wasn't very confident and was just too intimidated to get out there on the mat. My image of martial arts students was that they were in way better shape and it seemed like I would just get bullied. This fear kept me away from something that I now truly love and wish I'd started sooner.

Fortunately something happened to me about twenty years ago that started me on my martial arts journey. While at gymnastics practice with one of my daughters, a Kung Fu class was being taught in the same building. Of course I had to check it out.

After watching a few classes, I noticed the students didn't appear to be intimidating at all. After speaking to a few of them I realized they were regular people just like me, and they were having FUN! That's when I decided to try my first class. After that I was hooked and the rest is history.

I've been a martial artist for about twenty years now and it has been an amazing journey. I received my Kung Fu Master in 2018 from 2nd Generation Master Lawrence Rouse and currently hold the rank of blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Robert Marquardt.

Since founding my own Martial Arts Academy in my garage to now having a studio in Fullerton for five years, I've had the opportunity to train with hundreds of martial artist and even security and law enforcement personnel. I've even competed is a few tournaments.

These unique experiences have helped me take the traditional aspects of San Soo and incorporate elements found in other styles. It's this blending of old and new styles that make our San Soo progressive and still a pure self defense martial art.

It is a great honor to be 3rd generation Master under Grand Master Jimmy Woo! With that honor comes a greater responsibility to continue the tradition of teaching Kung Fu San Soo to a new generation and adapting the art to be able to defend against the threat of an attacker trained in modern martial arts.

At North Orange County Martial Arts, our mission is to help people live better lives through self discipline, physical fitness and self defense. We believe San Soo is one of the best activities to accomplish this mission.
