My journey in martial arts started when I was fifteen years old. I wasn't physically active and spent most of my time playing guitar and video games. As a result of this lifestyle I started to gain quite a bit of weight. I had no interest in sports and was not interested in going to the gym.

One day a good friend of mine suggested I try martial arts as a fun way to get into shape and so I signed up at a Muay Thai school near my home. I practiced on and off during my high school years and really began to enjoy it because it was an amazing workout and for the first time I was actually good at a sport.

During that time a close friend of mine was training martial arts at a different school that specialized in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Hapkido. I didn't know much about those arts but I did know they were different than what I'd been learning at my academy.

One day we decided to get together and have a friendly sparring match and let's just say it didn't go my way! Although while standing I was able to hold my own, once we hit the floor things changed drastically. I was taken to the ground and submitted in less than 1 minute!

Shortly after that, I signed up at his martial arts school!

I have trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Hapkido for many years now and after receiving my black belts I've spent my time teaching others what I have learned from my Master and my experience.

I am very passionate about martial arts. It has changed my life in ways I did not think possible and my mission is to continue to teach and inspire others and be a positive part of their lives during their journey just as my teacher is for me.

About
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu..

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the martial art made famous by Royce Gracie in the first UFCs. He proved that a smaller, weaker person could not only defend himself against a larger, stronger attacker but also defeat him in battle!

This philosophy makes Jiu-Jitsu a great activity to begin at any age and most of our students begin as older adults. BJJ, as it is known, is the "Gentlemen's Martial Art" because its focus is on learning how to defend yourself with a series of techniques and not brute strength.

Since technique, not size and strength, is what makes Jiu-Jitsu so effective it's the perfect martial art for men and women of all ages and fitness levels. Over time you will become more flexible, gain strength, increase endurance and even lose weight. As our Founder Master Geoff Hartman says "You get in shape while you're learning, that's the beauty of it".

Another great thing about training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the community that is created around this martial art. It is a great activity that many adults enjoy and since becoming proficient requires training partners, you will meet new people and even form friendships with others who practice BJJ.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners often refer to BJJ as a lifestyle because of the community built around it and also the benefits continue long after you leave the studio. Not only will you be able to defend yourself with techniques like arm bar and rear naked choke in just a few months, you will also see great improvement in flexibility and endurance. Some of our older adults have even told us they feel 10 year younger!

We understand adults lead busy lives and your time is valuable. That's why we offer the FREE Pass.  This gives you the opportunity to see if our program is right for you.

Simply register for your FREE Pass and we'll do the rest. You will also receive a loaner GI during your pass.

"Joining the North Orange County Martial Arts Family was the lifestyle change I needed. I realized I had been missing three important things in my personal life: physical exertion, measurable goals and being part of a team.

I get all of that, and more from practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at NOCMA. Since my first class (almost five months ago), I've lost 20lbs and gained a ton of confidence.

Thank you to Scott, Geoff, Chris, Professor Rob and the entire NOCMA family!"
